You probably already knew this, but you really shouldn't feel bad about yourself when you watch the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, which tapes in New York on Wednesday and airs on network television at the end of the month (after Thanksgiving, kindly). Adriana Lima, veteran "angel," who wore the diamond bra in last year's show and will walk again this year, has spoken quite frankly about the work she puts into her diet and fitness regime to attain the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show physique that allegedly defines what the world perceives as the hottest–sexiest–most beautiful female form. Last year before the show, she told us that six weeks beforehand, she adopts a very strict diet consisting of almost no carbs or fat, and works out for two hours a day. This year, she makes that regime sound a bit more intense in the Telegraph.
Lima's daily Victoria's Secret workouts began in August, and she increased those sessions with her personal trainer to twice a day three weeks ago. (The "really intense" exercises consist of jumping rope, boxing, and lifting weights, she says.) And the diet?
If that sounds difficult, to say the least, the stylist for the show prefers to qualify the routine in terms of athletic pursuits, as casting and model agents often do.
So it’s not the same as long-distance running in the least, though the regime may be as intense as what professional athletes go through. Yet unlike many female athletes, the resulting figure, without all those “lumps and bumps,” becomes the ultimate standard of beauty. The Victoria's Secret model's athletic pursuit, unlike a professional athlete, is only the appearance. So don't worry about why you don't look like them, or how you can. You probably didn't beat yourself up for not winning the New York City Marathon yesterday, after all. |

Pink Rocks The Runway is an annual fashion event that promotes breast cancer awareness to men and women under the age of 40. The event was held on October 21 inside the impressive Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. The program celebrated young breast cancer survivors each wearing a pink couture dress from a local designer, drawing attention to the misconception breast cancer awareness should begin at the age of 40. Annapolis native Christian Siriano, who may be best known for winning the reality fashion competition show, “Project Runway,” headlined the event. FOX 5's Will Thomas was among a group of personalities and athletes who also walked the runway wearing custom pink ties. |

With the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show taping less than a week away, this year's models are kicking their beauty regime into high gear. Us Weekly caught up with two of the lingerie label's Angels, Candice Swanepoel and Erin Heatherton, in NYC on Tuesday to see how they're prepping their abs, legs, skin and money-making assets for the sexiest night on TV.

"To prepare, I just work out and try to relax as much as I can," 23-year-old Swanepoel (in Dolce & Gabbana) told Us at the brand's launch for their new Angel fragrance and Dream Angels Bra. "I take three days off before the show and I get a facial, I do a hair mask -- anything to feel gorgeous!""I'm definitely drinking more water -- you need it to be beautiful," added Heatherton, 22. "I'm putting oil on my face, which I never used to do, but it's actually really nice. I use Rodin Luxury Face Oil ($140, oliolusso-shop.com) at night, and it keeps my skin hydrated and refreshed for the day -- not tired from all the makeup. And I basically make sure that I'm well rested -- that's the most important thing."
Other Angels who will strut their stuff in mechanical wings this year include veterans Lily Aldridge, Chanel Iman, Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio. (They'll walk to the beats of performances by Maroon 5, Kanye West and Cee Lo Green.)
And while Miranda Kerr (who sat out of last year's show due to baby Flynn) will be decked out in this year's $2.5 million Fantasy Bra, Swanepoel will be the Angel to kick things off. "It is quite a bit of pressure because so many people are watching. I'm opening the show, so it's a little scary, but it's amazing to be trusted with starting the energy of the show," said Swanepoel. The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show airs Tuesday, November 29 on CBS. |

Which sexy star is redefining what it means to be 'sexy'? Who is Britain's best-dressed woman? Here's the lowdown on the latest fashion news! Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen has revealed that she had to share showers with her sisters when she was growing up, because her family was poor.

The 31-year-old model further revealed that they were six sisters in the family, who used to stay in a two-bedroom house. So, often in a bid to save time and energy, they used to wash together.
"We slept in bunk beds and every time anyone wanted a shower, it was like, me first, me first! Sometimes my sisters and I would share one together to save time," Contactmusic quoted her as telling Vogue magazine. Bundchen insists that she is still extremely close with her siblings and parents and loves taking vacations with the entire family.
"Family, for me, is my base. I'm so grateful for that. I really feel that if I did not have that foundation when I was 16, I wouldn't have dared to leave. "Every year we have a family holiday, all of us together - my sisters, my parents, my sisters' husbands and children. It's kind of a sacred time," she added. |

THERE was a fusion of football, fashion, glitz and glamour at the Stadium of Light for a star-studded catwalk show. First-team Black Cats players joined models and other guest stars to strut their stuff in designer threads at the annual Fashion Strikes event.
Black Cats including Fraizer Campbell, David Meyler, Phil Bardsley, Nicklas Bendtner, Connor Wickham and Ahmed Elmohamady joined Olympic boxer Tony Jeffries, Miss Sunderland Pip Attle and professional models to wow the crowds at the high fashion event to raise funds for the SAFC Foundation.
Full back turned fashionista for the night Phil Bardsley said: “I did the show a couple of years ago and it’s a great way to give something back.
“It’s also good fun backstage for the lads. Some of the gear is pretty funky.”He added: “The foundation is a brilliant charity, which helps a lot of children and families, and it’s great that we can help to continue that.”
The night is expected to raise tens of thousands of pounds for the cause. The event also included performances from former X Factor finalists Ray Quinn and Lloyd Daniels, an auction and a three-course meal from 3663.
The players and models wore clothes from Fenwick in the catwalk show. Striker Fraizer Campbell said: “This is my third year doing the show. It’s good to be part of - it’s for a good cause and it’s good for a bit of team bonding as well.
“The audience get really into it when you’re on stage, but maybe that’s because they have a bit to drink too. The audience are sat only a couple of feet away from you so you can feel a bit more intimidated than at a match. It’s also all about you when you’re up there, but when you’re on the pitch you’re part of a team.”
Professional boxer Tony Jeffries, who lives in Moorside, said: “It’s a great chance to meet the players who I don’t know. I’m a Sunderland fan and any Sunderland fan would want the chance to mingle with the players.
“The clothes are stuff I wouldn’t normally wear but the way they put it together really works. It’s great that footballers use their profile to raise money like this for such a good charity.”X Factor finalist Lloyd Daniels opened the event by performing his upcoming single Suburbian Girl.
Midfielder David Meyler said after strutting his stuff on the catwalk: “It’s for a really good cause, they do fantastic work and we’re all delighted to be here. “We’ve all had a great time and it’s great to raise as much money as we can for the foundation.”
A charity auction for the foundation included a signed Lionel Messi shirt and even one of world record-holding sprinter Usain Bolt’s training shoes. Lesley Spuhler, SAFC Foundation chief executive, said: “It’s been an extremely successful night. The amount of players who’ve been here has made it one of the better years that we’ve done the show. “Last year we raised £25,000 from the show and we’re hoping to raise more this year.” |

“Performance art is my life. The idea is to create a fantasy that is so great that when we are together, it feels very real.” So said Lady Gaga at a news conference in New Delhi, and so she has. With 15 million followers on Twitter, the most in the world, and 44 million ‘likes’ on Facebook, the 25-year-old Grammy-winning artist, has redefined what it means to be popular.

Now in India, where she will play during the closing ceremony of the inaugural Indian Formula One Grand Prix on Sunday, she seems to be aiming for 1.2 billion more fans. She is already popular with urban youth, but has not replicated the chart-dominating success she has had in America and Europe, and is virtually unknown in rural India.
The journalists waiting for her news conference Friday afternoon at a five-star hotel in Delhi certainly seemed won over. Faint murmurs of complaint, which grew steadily louder after she was more than an hour late, were silenced the minute she walked into the room. She was dressed in a Naeem Khan outfit and wore the colors of the Indian flag in her hair. Even a seemingly jaded journalist for an English-language daily, who earlier made a flippant remark about knowing as much about Gaga as she knew about him, appeared spellbound.
Gaga first expressed her gratitude to her Indian fans for welcoming her, then spent about 15 minutes answering pre-selected questions. “The sights in India are beautiful, but the most beautiful sight is the people,” she said. Lady Gaga shared her Indian influences, which include Osho, a meditation-heavy philosophical and religious movement founded by an Indian guru. Her concert in India is a part of the promotional strategy for her latest album, “Born This Way,” which she described as an exploration of the meaning of reincarnation.
“Reincarnation during your one singular lifetime, this one,” she said. “This album is about being able to be reborn, to liberate yourself through love and music. I believe that you’re never trapped in anything.”
Apparently her influences do not include the megastar Shah Rukh Khan — in response to question shouted from the back of the room about what she thinks of him, she shrugged and looked confused.
She talked about her creative process. “I am a big admirer of Andy Warhol’s and he said, ‘always make things beautiful but do as much as you can get away with’.”Her eccentric style and sometimes bizarre outfits are an extension of that experiment, she said. “I am like any other girl. I wake up each morning and put on things that make me happy. Sometimes the things that make me happy are Muppets,” she said.
For Lady Gaga, it’s all about pushing the boundaries of love and acceptance, because she can be one woman or a hundred at the same time, she said. In her view, “People in America find it hard to believe that a young blonde woman writes her own music and plays her instruments, too.”
When asked about how she manages the expectations placed on her, she said her family helps to keep her grounded. “Every day of my life is quite similar to many of the men and women who are in this room today,” she said, a claim that may have strained credulity a bit. “I am just trying to make my parents proud.”
Lady Gaga has planned a show that would make Farah Khan proud, complete with specially designed sets and collaborations with Indian DJs who will spin her hits to Desi beats. |
