Zeven T-shirts ontworpen door zes getalenteerde studenten van ArtEZ Fashion Academy Arnhem liggen vanaf vrijdag 15 mei in 18 geselecteerde WE-stores in Nederland, België, Frankrijk en Duitsland. Dertig studenten van de Arnhemse modeacademie deden mee aan de opdracht om twee witte basic T-shirts - een dames- en een herenshirt - te restylen tot een draagbaar shirt in hun eigen stijl. Nou heb ik wel eens eerder een zool van autoband gezien, maar hier zit toch meer achter. De zool van de Plakkies (Afrikaans voor slippers) is gemaakt van oude autobanden. Die worden in Zuid-Afrika massaal gedumpt en illegaal verbrand en zijn daarmee een enorme belasting voor het milieu.
Schoengoeroe Jan Jansen werkte samen met studenten van de TU Delft, die samen met de Nederlandse stichting KidsRights een verantwoorde slipperfabriek in de sloppenwijken van Durban, Zuid-Afrika hebben neergezet. Werkgelegenheid voor kansarme sloppenwijkers maakt zo een duurzame design slipper. De kleurrijke patronen zijn gemaakt door weeskinderen. Plakkies  zijn vanaf woensdag verkrijgbaar voor 34,95 euro.
